MySmile LP221 water flosser review: customer feedback and dentists’ advice

The MySmile LP221 is worth comparing if you want a cordless water flosser with a readable display and adjustable settings. Its cleaning role is separate from teeth whitening. We have not tested its performance, durability or UVC system ourselves.

What is the MySmile LP221 designed to do?

A water flosser uses pulsed water to clean between and around teeth. The American Dental Association (ADA) describes it as an option for people who find hand flossing difficult, including some people with braces or fixed bridges. That is guidance about the category, not an endorsement of this model. [4]

For this review, we assess the LP221 as an interdental cleaning tool. It is not a bleaching treatment, and we found no verified evidence here that it changes the underlying tooth shade. If your main goal is a whiter smile, first decide whether you need cleaning, stain removal or a dentist’s whitening assessment. Those are different buying decisions.

MySmile and MySweetSmile are different brands. This review concerns the LP221 device linked above, not the MySweetSmile whitening powder reviewed elsewhere on this site.

What do customers say about the MySmile LP221?

On MySmile’s own product page, a reviewer named HackinsideHackinside praises the readable screen and solid feel. Mariam Jamous likes the handling and reservoir but reports that a previous unit’s screen stopped working before the device eventually needed replacing. These are brand-hosted anecdotes; purchase status, dates and exact Amazon variant could not be independently confirmed. [1]

The mixed detail is useful: it gives shoppers practical questions about controls and longevity. It cannot establish a failure rate or how most owners will get on. We have not interviewed these reviewers or verified their histories.

For the exact ASIN, Desertcart displayed a snapshot of 4.0/5 from 1,239 ratings. MerchantWords’ UK ASIN record showed 4.0 with 1,234 in its reviews field. These are secondary snapshots checked on 5 November 2026, not a verified live Amazon UK rating or a count of written comments. Other regional listings show different totals, so we have not combined them. [2] [3]

When reading current buyer feedback, look for reports after several months of use. Useful topics include leaks, screen reliability, charging, ease of opening the tank and the availability of replacement nozzles. Delivery praise does not establish cleaning performance.

OLED controls, water capacity and everyday usability

Our assessment is that clear controls matter more than a long list of modes. Before buying, consider whether you can read and change the settings comfortably with wet hands, whether the tank is easy to refill, and whether the handle suits your grip. We have not checked these points in use.

A listed reservoir volume does not tell you how long a session will last. Flow rate, setting and technique affect the amount of water used. We therefore do not promise a full-mouth clean on one fill. Similarly, cordless operation does not establish real battery endurance: we did not run a charge test.

Compare the whole ownership experience. Check the cost and UK availability of compatible tips, the charging requirements, the cleaning instructions and who handles warranty claims. A low purchase price can be less attractive if a small replacement part is hard to obtain.

Does the UVC feature make this a better choice?

The advertised disinfection feature is a reason to ask for evidence, not a reason to assume better gum health. We did not verify the underlying laboratory report, organisms tested, exposure conditions or performance in everyday use. A bacterial-reduction figure for a device is not a measured reduction in gum disease.

Our buying judgement is to treat UVC as an extra feature whose value remains uncertain. It should not be the deciding factor without accessible supporting evidence. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning and maintenance instructions; do not assume a light cycle removes debris or replaces the stated care routine.

We also did not verify an independent product-specific clinical trial comparing this LP221 with a simpler flosser. There is therefore no basis here to say its extra electronics deliver better dental outcomes.

What do dentists and dental experts say about water flossers?

The ADA says water flossers carrying its Seal of Acceptance have evidence assessed for safety and effectiveness. We did not establish that this specific LP221 carries that seal. A general “dentist-recommended” description should not be read as ADA acceptance. [4] [5]

The ADA’s evidence summary notes that research on oral irrigators has been limited and inconsistent, with much of the evidence short term and of low or very low certainty. This means broad category claims should be read carefully, especially when used to promote one particular device. It does not mean nobody can benefit from water flossing. [5]

NHS guidance remains to brush twice daily for about two minutes with fluoride toothpaste, and it recommends floss or interdental brushes to clean between teeth. Ask your dentist or hygienist which tool and technique fit your mouth. Do not stop an existing cleaning routine simply because a new device has more features. [6]

For implants, bridges, gum problems or recent dental work, get individual advice about the appropriate tip and technique before use. A review cannot assess the spaces around your teeth or replace your clinician’s care plan.

LP221, floss or interdental brushes: how to choose

This is a comparison of roles, not a head-to-head performance test. We have not tested the LP221 against competing models or measured plaque removal. Choose the method you can use properly and consistently with appropriate professional advice.

Is the MySmile LP221 worth buying?

Our verdict is conditional: it belongs on a comparison list if its format suits you and the seller can answer the practical questions. We cannot call it the best water flosser or assign a value score without a verified UK price, ownership costs and comparative testing.

Before ordering, confirm B0CL9QX8RZ, the colour, included tips, charging equipment, warranty route and return conditions. Check recent same-variant comments for recurring problems rather than judging on the average alone. The affiliate link below lets you see the current retailer details.

If whitening is your priority, read our whitening guide and separate product reviews before choosing. A cleaning device should be bought for its cleaning role; it should not be sold to readers on an unsupported promise of several shades of whitening.

MySmile LP221: frequently asked questions

Is the MySmile LP221 a teeth whitening device?

It is a water flosser for cleaning between and around teeth. We found no verified evidence here that it bleaches teeth or changes their underlying shade.

Have you tested the LP221?

No. This is a research-based editorial review, not a hands-on test or an individual clinical assessment.

What do customer reviews say?

Brand-hosted comments praise handling and the screen; one also reports a screen failure. These anecdotes were not independently verified and do not establish typical reliability.

What is its Amazon UK rating?

We could not verify the live Amazon UK rating. Secondary snapshots are labelled in the review and should not be treated as current retailer data.

Does UVC prove better gum health?

No. An advertised device-disinfection figure does not establish a clinical improvement in gum health. We did not verify the supporting UVC test report.

Can a water flosser replace brushing?

No. Continue twice-daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste. Ask your dental professional which interdental cleaning method suits you.

Is the LP221 ADA accepted?

We did not establish ADA Seal of Acceptance status for this specific model. General advice about accepted water flossers is not an endorsement of the LP221.

Can I use it with implants or braces?

Ask your dentist or hygienist about the correct tip, technique and suitability for your dental work before starting.

Is MySmile the same as MySweetSmile?

No. This review covers the MySmile LP221 water flosser. Our MySweetSmile article concerns a separate brand’s whitening powder.
